Rules of the Game

"Jamaican dodgeball": 3 players or more play in a wide open area. 2 pitchers on opposite sides with the rest of the players in the middle. Using a ball (often made from a rounded OJ or milk carton stuffed with newspaper), pitchers try to throw the ball and hit the people in the middle, or pitch it across to the other pitcher, who may have a better shot. The fun of the game comes from the acrobatic prowess of the "dodgers" in the middle. The "ball" can be thrown up to speeds of 80 mph. Everytime the dodger dodges a throw, they recieve a point. If the dodger accumulates 10 points (10 dodges), they win.

Generally when boys want to play, it switches to a team versus team game where boys play against a girls team. One team sends a dodger to compete against the other team's two throwers. They switch off every round. It can get very competitive.

Why and when it started

This game was started just for fun and was invented by kids. Typically younger kids, specifically young girls, only play this game although anyone can. Dandy Shandy dates back to 1950.
